2008 COTY Award
Stone-Glidden High Performance Home Systems recently won its third consecutive Contractor of the Year (COTY) award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). The firm received the 2008 COTY for Best Home Theater/Media Room award for a renovated family room in a contemporary Prairie Style home in eastern Montgomery County, Pa.

The award-winning design brought the room into greater harmony with the styling of the rest of the house. It provided increased seating space and eliminated the need to build the equipment into expensive cabinetry.

“Homeowners might be surprised at the range of affordable options available to them today,” said partner Mark Glidden. “We offer access to outstanding resources and technologies, but the value we bring to a project is more than our products and experience. It is also based on the relationships we have with the contractors, designers and architects we include on our team.

”Originally, a stacked array of laminated cubes popular in the 1980s held the television set and other equipment. Working in concert with Anthony Meli of Built In Exposures, the Stone-Glidden team integrated a 55-inch plasma panel into a Prairie-style room divider. For movies and sporting events, the push of a button lowers a 110-inch projection screen from one of the wooden coffers in the ceiling. The projector itself and all speakers are built into the ceiling, so they are completely invisible. To achieve the effect, Stone-Glidden used the innovative Novawall® ceiling system, which also enhanced the room’s acoustics.

A small corner cabinet, about the size of an end table, holds the CD and DVD players. Amplifiers, switching equipment and cable boxes are racked in a cool, well-ventilated area below the family room to prevent heat build-up. The entire system is operated from a Stone-Glidden “One-Touch Control” Unit, featuring a user-friendly, radio-frequency touch panel.

“We’ve worked hard to earn and uphold our reputation for excellence, so it’s gratifying to receive recognition for our work,” said partner Tom Stone.

NARI’s annual COTY awards recognize excellence in remodeling. An independent panel judges entries on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.
